SACSCOC Announces Georgetown College’s Accreditation Status

Submitted on December 6, 2022

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) continued accreditation for Georgetown College to award baccalaureate and master’s degrees with a warning to continue addressing and improving our financial strength on December 6, 2022. Georgetown College was initially accredited in 1915.

Amid the financial challenges that Georgetown College and all colleges across the country are tackling, Georgetown’s commitment to a rigorous, affordable, Christian, and inclusive education has not waned. Rising costs and debt that was incurred in previous decades have created ongoing challenges, but the College has experienced increasingly positive financial results that can place Georgetown in a solid financial position. While colleges and universities across the country have continued to raise tuition by an average of 2% over the past several years, Georgetown has successfully kept tuition increases below the 2% national average to ensure rising costs are not passed on to students. In addition, student enrollment is solid. In the fall of 2022, Georgetown welcomed 401 new students from more than 17 countries and 17 states outside of Kentucky.

Georgetown also continues to receive high marks for preparing students for their chosen profession.

1. Georgetown is ranked number one in Kentucky for getting a job or graduate school enrollment after graduation for the last five years in a row.

2. Ninety-three percent of all Georgetown graduates are either employed or in continuing education programs within six months of graduation.

3. Georgetown has been ranked 43rd in the country for making the biggest difference in students’ future earnings.

4. Keeping the faculty/student ratio low is a top priority which allows students at Georgetown to develop lasting relationships with faculty and receive personalized instruction.

5. Over the past five years, 100% of our pre-law students and 90% of our pre-med students have been admitted to top law and medical programs across the country.

6. Ninety-seven percent of Humanities majors are employed within six months of graduation.

We are also partnering with state leaders and economic developers to help prepare students for the jobs of the future. We will be adding degrees and certifications to meet Kentucky employers’ needs as the number of open jobs outpaces the number of available employees. One way we are doing this is by focusing on the expansion of our healthcare and technology programs to meet growing demand.

Great things are happening at Georgetown College. With the support of our alumni, faculty, and staff, Georgetown continues to tackle the challenges in front of us while providing our students a first-class education rooted in Christian values.

Thank you for supporting Georgetown as we carry on the Tiger tradition.
