Brandon D. Lawson ’13 Scholarship Gala

Brandon D. Lawson is the first African American male alum to establish a scholarship at Georgetown College and he hopes to increase the award each year. A former GC football player, Lawson transferred to Georgetown College as a sophomore and said it was one of the best decisions he ever made. He established the Brandon D. Lawson Scholarship for business majors to give back to his alma mater.  Lawson hopes to help students from diverse backgrounds pursue their aspirations and demonstrate the importance of lifting others up as they continue to succeed.

“I want to give back to students who are working full time, playing sports, or just need a little help,” says Lawson. “It feels good to help a young person realize their dreams.”

During his time at GC, Lawson was an accounting major with a minor in communications, served as team captain of the football team for Coach Bill Cronin, and was also a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. While Lawson admits that his GPA was never top of the class, he feels his most valuable experiences were outside the classroom.

“I interned at Mark Craft Accounting and Toyota’s accounting department with the help of the Career and Calling Center at GC. As a result, I learned how to communicate with people from other cultures, countries, and backgrounds,” says Lawson. “But most importantly, the friendships I built with my GC football teammates are priceless. We built a true camaraderie that created a lifelong bond.”

Lawson is an Account Executive at IBM. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from Georgetown College and his MBA from the University of Southern California (USC).
