The Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame has named four Georgetown College players to the 2022 Community Trust Bank Collegiate All-Commonwealth Team. DJ White, a fifth-year senior linebacker from Madisonville, Ky., and a two-time NAIA All-American, Rob Sheffield, a senior defensive back from Louisville, Aaron Maggard, a senior wide receiver from Paris, Ky., and Payton Standifer, a senior linebacker from Springboro, Ohio, were recognized before the Tigers’ first home game of the season, a 52-7 win over Bluefield University.

The four honorees were recognized for their on and off-the-field leadership, their dedication to the game of football, and to their contributions to the team.

Also, during the halftime ceremony, retired NAIA Hall of Fame Coach Bill Cronin, the Tiger’s head coach from 1997-2021, presented Bruce McNorton, ’82, with his Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame jacket. McNorton was inducted into the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame in 2008 but hadn’t received his jacket until now. A cornerback and kick returner at Georgetown College from 1978-1982, McNorton is the school’s only player in the Kentucky Pro Football Hall of Fame. He set numerous school records during his career, many of which still stand to this day. He still holds career records for kick return yards and kickoff return touchdowns, as well as single-season records for kick return yards and kickoff return touchdowns. When he graduated, McNorton held Georgetown records for interceptions and interception return yards.

After graduating from Georgetown College, McNorton went on to a prosperous career in the NFL as a cornerback with the Detroit Lions from 1982-90. He started in 92 of 116 games for the Lions and had 20 career interceptions before becoming a long-time scout in the NFL.
