Two New Exhibitions Currently Open at GC Galleries

The Cochneour and Wilson Galleries at Georgetown College have welcomed two new exhibitions this spring. The Wilson Gallery, which brings artwork from new and emerging artists to the College, will host the exhibition “Pink Apocalypse” by Danielle Muzina. The exhibition will run until April 17.
Muzina is an Assistant Professor of Painting at Murray State University. She holds an M.A. in Studio Art from Eastern Illinois University and an M.F.A. from Miami University. In January 2019, Mužina won an Artist Enrichment Grant from the Kentucky Foundation for Women to support a new body of figurative paintings addressing the charged interpersonal dynamics between women on an everyday level as we negotiate personal and communal crises. This work will now feature at the College as part of “Pink Apocalypse.”
“The works in Pink Apocalypse start a conversation about gender performance, place, and crisis,” said Director of Art Galleries and Curator of Collections Samantha Simpson. “She questions how both individuals and groups of women interface with looming changes in their immediate environments.”
Meanwhile, the Cochenour Gallery, which is located in Ensor Learning Resource Center, will feature a new exhibition by Jessica M. Simpson titled “To Touch Is To Think.” Simpson’s exhibition will run until April 14.
“Through Jessica’s creative process, she reconstructs found materials into new complete objects with new functions and changes their means of display,” said Simpson. “Thus, she is creating a new narrative, and a new way to appreciate them. By taking these items into her own hands, she is giving the power of individuality and liberation to women of the past.”
“To Touch Is To Think” can be viewed in the Cochenour Gallery Monday through Saturday from 12:00 to 4:30 pm, and “Pink Apocalypse” can be viewed in the Wilson Gallery Wednesday through Saturday from 12:00 to 4:30 pm. The galleries are open to the public during these hours. Mask-wearing, along with proper social distancing is required in the galleries at all times. Sanitizing stations are available in each gallery, and the number of visitors will be consistently monitored for safety.
