Submitted on December 2, 2019

In celebration of the fruitful and abiding partnership between Georgetown College and Scott County for the past 190 years, all students from Scott County admitted to Georgetown College during the next ten years will receive the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, a full-tuition scholarship worth approximately $160,000 for students entering in the fall of 2020.

Beginning in fall 2020, any newly admitted, full-time, residential student who either graduated from a high school in Scott County after attending for their senior year, or who has been a resident in Scott County for at least one year, will receive the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, which covers the full cost of tuition for four years, providing them the exciting opportunity to receive the unique, holistic education Georgetown College offers. Other scholarships and grants for which the student is eligible can be stacked on top of this scholarship and applied to room and board or other fees.

“Our remarkable institution was founded 190 years ago in Scott County, and since its inception, the college has shared a wonderful connection with the community,” said President of Georgetown College, Will Jones. “The Legacy and Legends Scholarship is a life-altering opportunity for local students to receive the championship-level education of the heart and mind that Georgetown College offers with the cost of tuition fully covered. I look forward to welcoming many new students from Scott County, students who will go on to become our alumni and enjoy all of the outstanding outcomes of a Georgetown College degree.”

The partnership will further the relationship between the college and the community, producing proud graduates ready to succeed in an ever-changing world. Ranked number one in the state of Kentucky for the second year in a row in job or graduate school placement, Georgetown College strives to send students out into the world ready to conquer its modern challenges, and this partnership will allow more students than ever to receive that quality of education.

“In true partnership, Georgetown College has opened a door for our students,” said Dr. Kevin Hub, Superintendent of Scott County Schools.  “This is an incredible opportunity for a generation of graduates.  I’m sure the Class of 2020 shares my excitement as we express our sincere gratitude for the leadership, vision, and commitment to education shown by Georgetown College.”

The new scholarship will begin in 2020 and will be up for renewal in 2030, allowing an entire generation of students access to a championship-level education of the heart and mind.

Dr. Jonathan Sands Wise, VP of Enrollment Management, notes that “There are already so many wonderful alumni of Georgetown College contributing in rich ways to our local community, and we are proud and incredibly excited to be able to offer this opportunity for a new generation of students to receive an exceptional education thanks to this exciting scholarship opportunity. This scholarship will be transformational not only for our college, but for Scott County as well.”

The opportunity for students in Scott County to receive the quality of education Georgetown College provides with the cost of tuition fully covered is life-altering and could affect generations of students, serving as encouragement to them and the entire Scott County community.

In addition to the Legacy and Legends Scholarship, Georgetown College offers generous scholarship assistance to every admitted student. Students are eligible to receive merit scholarships valued at between $8,000 to $25,000 per year, and many will also receive need-based or performance-based scholarships on top of that. Georgetown College is proud to offer a genuinely affordable and excellent education with outstanding outcomes for all of our students.
