The Bookie 24-Hour Study Space Officially Opens

Submitted on February 3, 2025

The Bookie 24-hour study space is officially open! Georgetown College hosted a grand opening party for students last week, with namesake Sarah “Bookie” Wilson '81 in attendance. Over 100 students gathered to eat pizza, pick up "Bookie" themed giveaway items, and see the new space.

Wilson made a donation to launch “The Bookie,” a new 24-hour study space in the Ensor Learning Resource Center at Georgetown College. The space features comfortable seating, study tables, smart boards, vending machines, and artwork by world-renowned artist Paul Harmon.

Wilson currently serves as a children’s librarian at the Woodford County Library in Versailles, Kentucky, and serves on the Early Childhood Literary Council. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from Georgetown College and went on to earn a master’s degree in library science from the University of Kentucky. She also served on the Board of Trustees at Georgetown College for many years. She was thrilled to contribute to the positive learning environment at her alma mater.

“The process was such a joy for me to be a part of,” Wilson says. “There is a Georgetown connection among alumni that is really strong. Contributing to its future through the student study space has been so gratifying.”

Wilson collaborated with longtime friend Karen Roark, Georgetown College Class of 1979, to select the nine original works of art created by Roark’s husband Paul Harmon. Roark had each work of art custom framed, and the couple donated the works to the College. The large 3’ X 4’ acrylic on paper works are so perfectly suited to the space that many students have asked if they were commissioned specifically for The Bookie.

The College’s new 24-hour student study space is located inside the Ensor Learning Resource Center and is open 24 hours a day to students by swiping their G-cards.
