Aplomb & Gusto: Boris Zakić

Submitted on November 10, 2020

The Art Department at Georgetown College is pleased to present Aplomb & Gusto: Boris Zakić, a 20-year retrospective curated by Keri O’Toole, on view at the Anne Wright Wilson Gallery (Paintings), Cochenour (Drawings and Works on Paper), and Dr. and Mrs. Jacobs Gallery (Adornments and Festoon-work).

About the Artist:

Boris Zakić is a long-time art professor at Georgetown College. Throughout his professional career, Zakić has challenged himself and those around him to look at painting closely, carefully, and critically. In the studio, Zakić has used paint in various ways: as a medium to form ideas (Translations, c. 2000-2006), as a quietude to formulate objects (Shhh, Flicker, c. 2012-2014), and finally, as the subject itself (Impasto Mannerisms, c. 2007-2012). By savoring paint for a higher purpose, this triple-venue expo retraces some of the critically acclaimed works as well as some hidden gems yet to be discovered.

About the Curator:

Keri O'Toole is a distinguished graduate of the Georgetown College’s own curatorial studies program. She has recently curated Free Fall, Cochenour Gallery (2019), The Prototype Studios, GC (2020), and initiated the web-based Things that Go Bump in the Night, Kunstmatrix (2020). For the Zakić’s 20-year retrospective, O’Toole has assembled one of the most comprehensive and well-researched exhibitions on the artist’s work to date. She lives and works in Louisville, KY.

The Wilson Gallery, The Cochenour Gallery and the Dr. and Mrs. Jacobs Gallery are open on Monday—Saturday 12:00pm -4:30pm or scheduled appointment with Samantha Simpson.

Virtual Programming will be announced soon.
