Accreditation Status of Georgetown College

Submitted on January 21, 2025

The Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC) completed its recent accreditation review for Georgetown College to award baccalaureate and master’s degrees. The SACSCOC Board continued Georgetown College’s accreditation while also choosing to place the College on Probation for Good Cause. SACSCOC cited noncompliance with Core Requirement 4.1 (Governing board characteristics), Core Requirement 13.1 (Financial resources), and Standard 13.3 (Financial responsibility).

It is important to note that the addition of For Good Cause indicates that SACSCOC believes the College has made significant accomplishments in areas of concern and has provided evidence it will fix all areas of noncompliance in the next 12 months.

SACSCOC’s decision comes after our Board of Trustees, alumni, and friends came together to pay off $28 million in long-term debt. Over the past 12 months, we have also implemented new operational efficiencies and developed a plan for growth that increases the College’s operational revenue and aligns with regional workforce needs. Though work remains to be done, the College has a strong foundation for future growth as well as an energized faculty, staff, and alumni. We continue our commitment to provide an affordable, rigorous, Christian, and inclusive education.

Now more than ever, Georgetown College needs the support of friends, alumni, and community members to cement our legacy of cultivating passion and igniting purpose, graduating individuals who are committed to making a positive difference in our world. With that support, the College will be able to build upon the progress of this past year and demonstrate compliance with SACSCOC’s standards.

We invite you to Support Georgetown College and provide educational opportunities for students who will carry into the world the GC values of service and community. Click here for the SACSCOC notice.
