Biomedical Sciences

The Biomedical Sciences major is an interdisciplinary program designed for students seeking careers in the health sciences. The curriculum provides the foundation needed for admission to and success in a variety of professional schools (medicine, dentistry, veterinary medicine, physician assistant programs, nursing, etc.), graduate programs (physiology, neuroscience, immunology, human genetics, etc.), or employment directly after graduation. Students interested in nursing can follow a track that prepares them for a dual-degree program leading to a BSN from the University of Kentucky and a BS from Georgetown College.

After completing a core set of courses, students specialize in an area of interest through upper-level biology and chemistry courses. Over the past five years, 100% of qualified students (and over 90% of all medical school applicants) have been admitted to a wide range of excellent programs.

Experiential Learning Opportunities

  1. Pre-Health Shadow Program: Receive course credit to follow local physicians or other health-care professionals as they conduct their daily work.
  2. Research Opportunities:
    Experience the thrill of discovery in a hands-on research-intensive course.
    Conduct an independent study project with a professor at Georgetown College.
    Study with researchers at institutions across the country, such as the National Institutes of Health, Cardiovascular Innovation Institute, or hundreds of other schools throughout the country through our Science Honors Program
