Students participate in GC Honors courses to develop academic skills, deepen content knowledge, and build personal habits essential for success in the renowned Oxford Tutorial style of teaching and learning.

HOW THE OXFORD HONORS PROGRAM WORKS
Oxford Honors Scholars participate in and complete the following program elements:
- 15 hours of Honors Credit; eight of these hours may be earned at Oxford,
- An interdisciplinary Honors Seminar or three Honors Reading Groups,
- An Honors Thesis, usually completed in the senior year.
Oxford Honors Scholars receive an annual $1,000 stipend. To maintain the stipend, Oxford Honors Scholars must complete these requirements in a specific order that emphasizes early training opportunities. Throughout regular advising sessions and communications, students receive detailed guidance from the Director of Oxford Programs on how to organize their Honors components to fulfill program requirements. Additionally, scholars participate in up to six workshops during their first two years. These workshops focus on strengthening core academic skills, encouraging independent exploration of their discipline, and experiencing the benefits of the Oxford Tutorial Method.
APPLICATION AND QUALIFICATIONS
Students with an ACT score of 28 or higher and a cumulative high school GPA of 3.75 are eligible to apply. Students must also be interested in majoring, minoring, or cultivating a strong elective concentration in one of the following disciplines:

MORE ABOUT THE OXFORD TUTORIAL METHOD
THE OXFORD TUTORIAL METHOD
The Oxford Tutorial Method is named after the teaching style popularized by Oxford and Cambridge Universities. Instead of attending large classes, students at Oxford dedicate much of their time to independent thinking, reading, and writing assignments assigned by their tutors. They then discuss and defend their work in one-on-one sessions or small groups with their tutors. This approach encourages students to reach their full potential as thinkers and writers.
TRAINING AT GEORGETOWN COLLEGE
Since the Tutorial method is unfamiliar to most American students, participants in the Tutorial Program receive thorough training before studying abroad. Typically, during their sophomore or junior year, students undergo a training tutorial at GC in their field. Our faculty tutors help students develop skills for success at Oxford. After completing the practice tutorial, students are interviewed by Regent’s Park College faculty and submit a writing sample before final admission. Students usually take tutorials in their major or minor at Georgetown College, but some have tutorials in areas where they’ve shown proficiency without declaring a major or minor. There’s some flexibility in courses offered through Regent’s Park, mostly in humanities or social sciences.

Tutorial topics are chosen in consultation with the Director of Oxford Programs to meet major or minor requirements based on Oxford offerings. For students not minoring or majoring in these areas, we can develop electives early, making the Tutorial Program accessible to most qualified Georgetown students regardless of their major.
TRANSFERRING CREDITS
Credits earned through Regent’s Park College at the University of Oxford automatically transfer into the student’s record at Georgetown College. The grade earned while at Oxford will also be factored into the student’s Georgetown GPA. There are three terms at the University of Oxford, each of which has a distinct name:
- Michaelmas term runs from October to December
- Hilary term runs from January to March
- Trinity term runs from April to June.
Students can request one to three terms per year, but the number of terms awarded depends on space availability. Each Oxford term includes a full tutorial plus a half tutorial, totaling 12 upper-level credits at Georgetown. For example, Hilary and Trinity terms earn 24 hours; Michaelmas earns 12 hours.
COSTS AND ACCOMMODATIONS
For most students, the costs at Georgetown and Regent’s Park are similar. Financial aid applicable at Georgetown will also apply. Tuition and fees cover tuition, fifteen weekly meals, accommodations in Oxford (at college or elsewhere), and library access.
The students themselves will be responsible for health insurance (required for program participation), travel to and from Oxford, and weekend meals. Participants should also plan for additional personal expenses, such as souvenirs and independent travel, based on their individual spending habits.
