Campus Safety reserves the right to ticket and/or tow any vehicle that violates vehicle and parking policies, including registration obtained under false pretenses. The driver and/or the registered owner of the vehicle is responsible for violations of college vehicle and parking regulations, including applicable fines, towing fees, related charges, and possible disciplinary action. Make sure to inform any relatives or friends who may use your vehicle about the parking guidelines. This includes where to legally park your vehicle to avoid a parking citation.

If you park in a spot not authorized by your permit, you are subject to a parking citation. These citations can be costly; the following is a list of parking violations and fines.

Failure to display decal — $50
Parking in a disabled person’s spot — $75
Parking in a reserved or restricted area — $40
Driving or parking on grounds or sidewalks — $40
Parking in a fire lane — $40
Improper parking (over the line, not in a space) —$20
Improper display of current decal — $20

Tow fees and impoundment costs are even higher. Fines are paid at the Business Office in Highbaugh Hall. There will be a $5 reduction in the total fine for all tickets paid within 2 business days.

State-IssIf your vehicle has a state-issued GC license plate, you will receive a $10 discount on your parking permit. You can get your GC license plate at your local County Clerk’s Office.

Students with a state-issued handicapped permit must file a copy at the Campus Safety Office. Students must display their own state-issued handicapped permit. Using someone else’s permit in a marked handicap spot results in a parking violation, towing, and disciplinary action.

Parking citation appeals are filed with the Campus Safety office. For your appeal to be considered, you must complete an appeal form that includes a written explanation of the circumstances. A copy of the parking citation must also be attached to the appeal form. When you file an appeal, you do not need to pay any portion of the fine until after you have been notified of the committee’s decision.

Students who have filed an appeal will receive a letter informing them of the committee’s decision. Students who are notified that their appeal has been denied or amended will still be eligible for a $5 reduction in the total fine. However, the fine must be paid in full within 2 days of receipt of the notification letter.

Georgetown College is not responsible for any damage or loss that may occur to a student’s motor vehicle/motorcycle or its contents. Campus Safety will assist you in contacting the Georgetown City Police Department to report theft or vandalism to your vehicle/motorcycle.

Yes, the City of Georgetown can ticket vehicles in college lots that are parked in tow zones, fire zones, and handicapped spaces.

• “All Clear” will be announced over the local TV and radio stations or at the expiration of the initial National Weather Service warning.

In the case of an emergency, all efforts will be made to alert the campus community in the following ways:

• All Hazards Emergency Warning sirens: Shelter in Place
• Fire Alarms: Evacuate the building
• Email: An email may be sent to all people with a ‘georgetowncollege.edu’ address.
• Text Messaging: Georgetown College faculty, staff, and students may sign up for the Text Alert System to receive emergency text messages.
• Webpage: The homepage (www.georgetowncollege.edu) is the focal point for all campus-related emergencies.
• Local Media: The College works with the news media, radio, TV, newspapers, and the internet to help spread the word.

When a crime occurs, or you know one is about to occur, it is the student’s duty to inform Campus Safety immediately so Campus Safety can respond quickly to the scene or prevent the crime.

Georgetown College is private property and is maintained for the use of the college community and authorized persons only. We also restrict access to the living areas of our residence halls to residents and their guests.

Our professional campus security team, in collaboration with the Georgetown City Police Department, is dedicated to keeping our students and the broader college community safe and free from crime.

• Security staff are introduced, and the escort service is explained and recommended at the new student orientation.
• Procedures for reporting crimes and preventing crime on campus are discussed every fall with resident directors and resident assistants.
• Campus safety awareness posters are placed in residence halls and campus buildings.
• Meeting with the Association of Georgetown Students (AGS) at least yearly, to address the issues of concern. Is this SGA? Go ahead and include;  we can always change later.
• Students are provided a Campus Safety manual describing services, emergency procedures, parking, etc. Are they? Where is this document? Go ahead and include; we can always remove later.
• Once a semester, Campus Safety informs members of the college community how they can take responsibility for their own security, including locking doors and crossing campus.
• Student life residence hall programming enhances our students’ safety awareness by providing workshops on such topics as:

• Substance abuse
• Alcohol awareness
• Self-esteem
• CPR training
• Personal health

The campus community can help prevent crime by alerting Campus Safety to any suspicious activity. Campus Safety is located on the 2nd floor of the Cralle Student Center and can be reached by phone at 502-863-8111

The local police work with our Campus Safety Department when entering the campus. All contact with the local police is logged with Campus Safety and documented for future reference. Georgetown College has no off-campus student organizations. Off-campus social functions by service, club, or social organizations are beyond the college’s control.

We have described various programs relating to self-defense, date rape, and reducing vulnerability. Should a sex offense occur, personnel other than students should direct their complaint to the Vice President responsible for Human Resources, who will follow the college policy and provide a skilled and sympathetic ear to the individual. On behalf of any student, the counseling psychologist receives the complaint, discusses options with the student, and supports the student throughout the process.

1a. The Georgetown College Department of Campus Safety publishes a handout that is distributed on campus and contains information on fire safety, weapons possession, escort services, sexual assault, and crime prevention. Georgetown College has an organized Safety Committee that works with each department to address safety concerns and issues.

1b. The Campus Safety Handout contains information on the proper procedure for contacting Campus Safety. Student Life publishes and distributes a list of names and telephone numbers for reporting emergencies and non-emergencies.

1c. The Director of Campus Safety conducts a meeting at the beginning of the Fall Semester and discusses personal safety. Student Life conducts classes each semester and promotes awareness of rape, date rape, and other forcible and non-forcible sexual offenses. Georgetown College has in the past invited the Kentucky State Police, the Scott County Sheriff’s Department, and the Georgetown City Police to come to campus to conduct seminars on personal safety. Georgetown College will continue to use these notification methods if the agencies are willing to help.

The calendar year for the annual report shall be the calendar year before the year in which the report is filed.
