As a sociology major, you will learn to examine the causes and consequences of human behavior with the goal of creating a more just and sustainable world. Small class sizes, intellectual diversity, and opportunities for community engagement and service learning define this excellent department at Georgetown College. In addition to the traditional sociology major, we offer two concentrations – Social and Criminal Justice and Community Health and Sustainability – so you can tailor your major to your passions.
The Community Health and Sustainability concentration or minor examines how the health of individuals, economies, communities, and physical environments interact to produce good or poor outcomes. Courses like Food, Health, and Environment; Community Resilience and Leadership; and Environment and Sustainability give students tools to act as citizens, entrepreneurs, and leaders to effect positive change in their communities. The concentration or minor is a perfect complement to majors in Psychology, Pre-medical, Allied Health, Political Science, or Business Administration.
