With 25 years of experience in helping people achieve their dream careers, Dennis Hefner is ready to continue Georgetown College’s record of excellence in students getting a job or into graduate school once they receive their diploma. This year, GC was named the best in Kentucky for the third year in a row in students getting into graduate school or into a job within six months of graduation, and Hefner, who was named the new Director of the Graves Center for Calling and Career this fall, is ready to build on this success and take it even further.
“We want to focus on career development before you even step foot on campus,” says Hefner. “We are aiming to know your specific career or graduate school goals as early as possible, even down to which graduate schools you dream of attending and which employers you dream of working with. We’ll work with you through all four years, focusing on different elements along the way, to help you achieve those dreams. We want to know that you’re achieving your goals, and we’ll work with you to help you get there.”
The college’s goal for students is not just to help them find success but to help them find happiness and fulfillment to go along with that success. This is what a championship-level education of the heart and mind is all about. Hefner aims to achieve this ideal.
Heavily data-driven, Hefner brings a long history of working with students, as well as employers, which will guide how he leads the Graves Center and how he serves students. “I believe it’s vital for those working in career services to be in contact with and work with employers. We need to know what they’re looking for in students, so we can help students get there. I bring that experience, along with experience working with students, which will serve me well here at Georgetown.”
When talking with Hefner and his dreams for Georgetown College, one thing becomes clear. His primary focus is the students. “They’re the whole reason I’m here,” he says of GC’s students. “Students will find that I’m committed to them. I am willing to do whatever I can to help them succeed.”
This dedication to helping students achieve their dreams, which exists across the entire campus, will help ensure that students have the resources, knowledge, and support they need to become successful. It will surely lead to even more stories of students being accepted into their ideal graduate school or landing that dream job.
