The Georgetown College campus community mourns the death of retired political science professor Keon Chi, 71, of Lexington. Dr. Chi died Wednesday evening, January 9, after the vehicle he was driving was struck by a pickup truck at the intersection of Ironworks Pike and Research Park Drive in Fayette County, officials said.
Expressing condolence, board of trustee member Carroll Stevens said, “He was a very good man, a committed teacher and scholar and ever the stalwart member of the Georgetown College community in every way.”
A former student, Jessica Zink ’01, said, “I was a student in his class and thought highly of him. It is a sad day for everyone whose lives he touched.”
In April, 2006, Dr. Chi celebrated his retirement from Georgetown College after 35 years. A tribute to Chi entered into the Congressional Record praised his “keen insight into American and global political systems,” which helped his students understand how people are governed.
Dr. Chi is survived by his wife, Insoon, and his two sons & their families.
Visitation is Saturday, January 12, from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Kerr Brothers Funeral Home, 3421 Harrodsburg Road, Lexington. The funeral service is at 2 p.m. Sunday in John L. Hill Chapel on the Georgetown College campus. Burial is Monday with a private service.
