Studying a foreign language is an integral part of a liberal arts education. We live in an increasingly global society, where language proficiency is essential for living and working as a world citizen.

All Georgetown students demonstrate intermediate-level proficiency in a language as part of the College’s Foundations and Core curriculum. The College offers instruction, including majors and minors, in:

A foreign language major or minor is a valuable complement to other majors, and students are encouraged to spend a summer, semester, or a year studying abroad. Graduates may seek careers in such areas as:

  • teaching
  • travel
  • social work
  • foreign missions
  • diplomacy
  • international business (especially with a major in Commerce, Language and Culture)
