On Campus Employment
As an F-1 student, your employment eligibility is limited by US law. However, you are allowed to work on campus for up to 20 hours per week during the academic year and up to full-time (typically 40 hours per week) during official campus breaks (Winter Break, Spring Break and Summer Break). There are severe penalties for exceeding the number of hours you are allowed to work per week – it is your responsibility to make sure you do not exceed this limit.
You may work in various departments or offices across campus, depending on job availability. You may also work for dining services; however, you cannot work for both the College and dining services.
Note: You may not begin working on campus until you have received your application approval letter from the Social Security Office.
Direct deposit is the easiest way to access your monthly paycheck. To enroll, simply complete the Direct Deposit form (must sign in to the Portal to access form) and submit it, along with a voided check or deposit slip, to the payroll office (via Campus Mail or in person on the second floor of Highbaugh Hall). Note: this form is only for those students employed by Georgetown College (not Sodexo).
Off Campus Employment
Off campus employment is limited for F-1 students. However, off campus employment maybe possible via an academic internship (CPT) or OPT. Please contact Jason Snider for more information regarding off campus employment.
