The Georgetown College Writing Center is designed so that trained upperclass peer tutors with various majors/specialties meet with and assist students individually (one-on-one) and work on their writing assignments. Clients must be prepared to explain their assignments, read their writing aloud, and make revisions and corrections themselves during the tutorial; tutors themselves will not do any writing or make corrections for students. Content of essays is examined and discussed, along with support of ideas, organization of ideas, wording of ideas, grammar and punctuation, and documentation. Students may take in research papers also, or creative writing, and any work-in-progress. Help is available to all Georgetown students in any course. Students can also take English CLEP exams in the Center to see if they can exempt ENG 111 OR 112.
Thanks, in part, to a generous grant from the Steele-Reese Foundation, the Center has been expanded to include an extensive library of writing exercises and books to assist students in writing across the curriculum/Writing Flag courses or Foundations courses. This GC Writing Center website features an in-depth description of the various services available to you.
The Writing Center is conveniently located in the basement of the Anna Ashcraft Ensor Learning Resource Center, in room LRC-016. To make an appointment for quality peer help in a face-to-face tutorial, call our hotline at 502-863-8423 during the operating hours listed below during dates of operation, well in advance of a writing assignment due date. Or, you may contact a tutor listed in the “Tutors and their Majors/Familiarities” section of this website–also listed in GConnect.
