Georgetown College has thirty-two, four-bedroom apartments on the east end of campus. The apartments are fully furnished and managed by a Resident Director. Each apartment has:
- four bedrooms
- two bathrooms
- living room
- laundry facilities on site
East Campus Apartments
In August 1997, Georgetown College opened thirty-two, four-bedroom apartments on the east end of campus. The apartments are fully furnished and managed by a Resident Director.
Eligibility: Students who have achieved senior as determined by the Registrar are eligible to live in these apartments will have first choice. Juniors may reside in the apartments only if they have achieved a minimum cumulative grade point average to be determined annually. If space is still available, any individual over the age of 21 may be eligible.
Meal Plan: Students residing in East Campus are required to carry at least a 7 meal plan.
Student Code of Conduct History: Students with more than two Student Code of Conduct violations occuring within a year prior to residing on East may not be eligible for East Campus living. Likewise, students whose accountability history reaches this threshold while living on East, may no longer be eligible.
Application and Placement: Priority will be given based on class standing, GPA and students who apply in groups of 4 eligible members. Students who elect to study abroad after application will not be granted “squatter’s rights” and the space will become available to other students.
If a student’s housing assignment is not filled to capacity (and that student is not paying for a private room), Residence Life may assign another student to that space to fill the room to capacity. For example, if a group of only 4 students find themselves assigned to a 6 person townhouse, Residence Life may assign 2 more students to that townhouse even without the consent of the initial 4. As long as a student is eligible for a housing assignment, he/she may live there as long as space permits. Those students that reside in a housing assignment first do not have the ability to deny occupancy to other eligible students.
Cancellation Fee: The application to live in East Campus as a group member is binding. Breaking the agreement will result in a $200 fine to the student who chooses to withdraw his/her application, transfer, study abroad, etc.
Policies: Apartment residents must abide by all pertinent rules and regulations as detailed in the Student Handbook. Failure to abide by these rules and regulations will result in disciplinary action. The procedures for disciplinary action are outlined in the Student Handbook.
Students living in East Campus may not utilize their apartment to host “parties”. A “party” is defined as the presence of more than 2 guests per present resident in an apartment where another policy violation is occurring. Policy violations include, but are not limited to alcohol, visitation, and noise. Residents who are caught hosting parties will be subject to the College’s disciplinary procedures and sanctions may include the loss of their apartment and subsequent return to main campus.
Damage: Residents will be expected to take care of all college property. Student Life staff will inspect each apartment for damage four times annually. Bedroom damage will be assessed to the person assigned to the room; public area (kitchen, living room, bathrooms) damage will be assessed to all residents of the apartment unless the person responsible comes forward.
Visitation: East Campus visitation hours are the same as main campus unless otherwise agreed on.
East Campus residents may opt-in to a different visitation policy, a 23-hour policy. This visitation schedule allows residents to have visitors of any gender, 7 days a week with the exception of the hour 4am-5am. The purpose of this policy is to allow students to have the freedom to visit as they wish. However, this policy will not facilitate or enable cohabitation. Students are not allowed to reside in another individual’s assigned residence.
This policy allows each apartment to have opposite sex visitation during 23 hours during the day. Every member of the apartment must agree to 23 hour visitation in order to receive the extended visitation hours. In order opt in to the 23 hour visitation policy all residents must sign the East Campus Visitation Agreement and turn it in to the Area Coordintaor. If not every member agrees, the traditional visitation hours (listed above) will apply. If students are found cohabitating in another residence, the 23-hour privilege will be revoked from that apartment and the students may also face accountability actions.
