Community Garden Student Coordinator
The Student Coordinator would assist the overall Garden Coordinator—currently Dr. Homer White of the MPC Department—in several aspects of the organization and maintenance of the Garden.
Possible Tasks (specific duties determined in consultation with the Garden Coordinator, keeping the student’s schedule and interests in mind):
- Attend meetings of the Garden Board, where we decide on the layout of the Garden for upcoming growing season, decide what to grow this year, etc. Usually there are 1-2 such meetings per year.
- Assist in our Seed-Starting Program (February –April), which can take place in the Biology Greenhouse and/or student dormitories, depending on who volunteers to help.
- Help organize work-periods for campus organizations and off-campus groups that wish to do a service-project at the Garden.
- Be present at some of the above events (probably 2-3 times per semester).
- If you live in Georgetown, participate in the Summer Volunteer Program. (This is a small group that gets together once or twice a week during the summer months to weed, harvest, take harvest donations to AMEN House or another local feeding ministry, etc. Last year we donated over 630 pounds of produce to AMEN House!)
- Help spread the word on campus about the Garden and about the joys of fresh, local foods.
Benefits:
- Gardening experience.
- You get to run the big tiller!
- All the fresh produce you can eat!
