Executive Council

Officer Duties

The Student Executive Council is made up of six officers. This group meets once a week and holds regular office hours.They make executive decisions for the Student Government Association under the leadership of the President.

1. Duties of the President

SGA

The SGA President, who is here invested with the powers andresponsibilities to: (1) Preside over and attend all meetings of the EC, the House of Representatives and the SGA General Assembly; (2) Serve as a liaison between all branches of the SGA; (3) Shall serve as the Speaker of the House for the House of Representatives (4) Cast the deciding vote at EC, Student Senate, House of Representatives, and the SGA General Assembly meetings; (5) Call special meetings for any SGA branch; (6) Serve as a student representative to the Student Life Committee of the Board of Trustees; (7) Represent the SGA at all ceremonial functions and should the occasion arise, be able to act on behalf of the Student Government Association; (8) Work in the SGA office for at least three hours a week during regular college business hours and (9) Coordinate the selection process for the House of Representatives.

2. Duties of the Vice-President

The SGA Vice-President who is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1) Serve as the President of the Senate; (2) Preside over the EC and the SGA General Assembly in the absence of the SGA President; (3) Have regular voting rights on the EC and special voting rights on the Senate; (4) Coordinate the Student Senate and appoint members to the Senate; (5) Attend all meetings of the EC and Senate; (7) Appoint special committees from within the Senate, including a constitutional interpretation committee as needed to be presided over by the Vice President (8) Work in the SGA office for at least three hours a week during regular college business hours and (9) accept and select applications for senate positions (Faculty committees, Board of Trustees, etc.).

3. Duties of the Vice President of Academic Affairs

The Vice President of Academic Affairs who is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1)Maintain a relationship with the Provost of the college; (2) Serve as an advocate to the Provost concerning academics; (3) Organize speakers for General Assemblies and other NEXUS events hosted by SGA; (4) Organize speakers and leadership development opportunities for House and Senate members; (5) Oversee the Academic Affairs Committee; (6) Coordinate the election of Academic Affairs Committee during the first two weeks of the Academic school year; (7) Maintain attendance records of Academic Affairs Committee to faculty meetings; (8) Collect reports from Senate Committees; (9)Work in the SGA office for at least three hours a week during regular college business hours.

4. Duties of the Vice-President of Campus and Community Affairs

The SGA Vice-President of Campus and Community Affairs is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1) Appoint a Public Relations Chair; (2) Constantly research current and creative ways to reach the student body
Current Vice President of Campus and Community Affairs: Madelyn Frost; (3) Work in the SGA office for at least three hours a week during regular college business hours.; (4) Act as a liaison with any Community Service Organization; (5) Organize governmental and student related events and initiatives; (6) Serve as a clearinghouse for all community service and volunteer requests; (7) Oversee appointments to committees including, but not limited to, the Caf committee and Library Services; (8) Coordinate at least one volunteer opportunity that all SGA members are required to attend once a year; (9) Help organize IMPACT conference in fall semester.

5. Duties of the Parliamentarian

The SGA Parliamentarian is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1) Act as the authority figure for all meetings that utilize Parliamentary Procedure according to Robert’s Rules of Order; (2) Take minutes at all EC, House, Senate and General Assembly meetings and email out to appropriate group within 48 hours; (3) Work in the SGA office for at least three hours a week during regular college business hours; (4) Oversee the records of office hours; (5) Keep track of all finances concerning SGA; (6) Oversee the allocation of the budget and provide weekly updates to EC as well as monthly updates to General Assembly; (7) Maintain copies of grant transfer sheets; (8) Inform SGA members of meeting via phone/ email one week in advance of meeting and again within 24 hours of the meeting; (9) Collect excuses of SGA members for absences to GA’s or other meetings and events.

6. Duties of the Public Relations Chair

The SGA Public Relations Chair is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1) Work in the SGA office for at least two hours a week during regular college business hours; (2) Maintain all social media outlets of SGA; (3) Maintain constant relations with Georgetonian and campus radio station; (4) Organize all signage and fliers around campus; (5) Have the power to appoint and delegate tasks to a Public Relations Committee if necessary to help with assigned tasks; (6) Work with and get approval from Vice-President of Campus and Community Relations on all designs.

7. Duties of the Student Issues Chair

The SGA Student Issues Chair is here invested with the powers and responsibilities to (1) Work in the SGA office for at least two hours a week during regular college business hours; (2) Have the power to appoint and delegate tasks to a Student Concerns Committee if necessary to help with assigned tasks; (3) Share duties with the VP of Campus and Community Relations if necessary.
