GC alumnae ‘Becca Johnson, her husband Bert Rawert, their sons Matthew and Nathan, and biggER sister Kaira announce the arrival of their youngest family member, Asher, born January 9th (weighing 8lbs, 7.6oz and measuring 21 inches long).  Asher is a Hebrew name meaning happy, fortunate, blessed.  “Then Leah said, ‘How happy I am! The women will call me happy.’ So she named him Asher.” -Genesis 30:13

Congratulations to Andy and Christy (Garland) Hale, whose daughter Sydney Hannah Hale was born February 13, 2013.  In 18 years, we hope to have her as a freshman (freshwoman) in our classes.

Ashley Clayton, psychology major and 2009 graduate, recently published her first and second articles, entitled Going to the source: Creating a citizenship outcome measure by community-based participatory research methods and The Citizen Project Part II: Impact of a citizenship intervention on clinical and community outcomes for persons with mental illness and criminal justice involvement.  She is currently working at Yale University’s Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine.  She serves as a researcher with the Program for Recovery and Community Health.  Read one (Clayton et al. article) or both (Rowe et al. article) of her articles and learn what a dendrogram is!

Hannah, Amber, Chelsea and Brooke at DSACK conference with Dr. Bell

Amber Pelfrey O’Neal, Hannah Howard Wathen, Chelsea Denham, and Brooke Reed Browning attended the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky (DSACK) conference in February. Brooke co-authored a poster presentation (with Dr. Bell of GC and Dr. Carr of UC) as well. All four are graduates of GC. Amber and Hannah both minored in psychology and are currently occupational therapists.

Mikki, who already earned a master’s degree in Industrial/Organizational Psychology, is currently completing her third year of graduate school at Oregon State University’s College of Veterinary Medicine, for which she serves as SCAVMA Treasurer.

The photos are of Mikki and her husband during their trip to Europe and Morocco last year, and of Mikki during her vet school trip to Nicaragua last summer.  She graduated from GC in 2000 and has been married 9 years.

She and her husband may return to Kentucky once she completes her veterinary medicine degree in 2013.  We hope so!

Hannah and Andrew (also a GC graduate, who is currently a student at Baptist Seminary of Kentucky) recently got engaged.  Their big day is set for August 4th.  Hannah is currently attending EKU’s school psychology graduate program.  Congratulations to you both!!  Hannah is pictured with some  family and friends at a recent wedding shower in her honor.

Ashley married Terry Campbell on July 25, 2009.  They had a beautiful, healthy baby girl on May 18, 2011: Harper Rhyse Campbell was 6 lbs 9 oz and 19 inches long! They bought their first home recently and moved in on September 11, 2011.  Ashley is currently a social service worker with Protection and Permanency in the Cabinet for Health and Family Services.  Congratulations regarding all of your exciting news, Ashley!

Congratulations to Laura (Levy) and Doug McDonald on the birth (and growth!) of their daughter, Clarke Elizabeth.  We cannot wait to see her in some “future GC student” attire!

Jay and Taylor (Hampton) Phillips welcomed their first child, a son named Jonah on December 30, 2010.  He weighed 8 pounds, 3 ounces and was 21 inches long.  All are doing well – look at how much Jonah has grown in the past 8 1/2 months! 

Congratulations to Brittany Napper and Adam Schott, who married on July 31, 2010.

Brian Rue and his wife Audra recently celebrated their son Troy’s one year birthday (Troy’s photo on right).

Congratulations to psychology graduate Brooke Reed, a current doctoral student in school psychology at UK.  She has been working with the Down Syndrome Association of Central Kentucky and won the United Way Volunteer of the Year award in the college student division!  Pictured are (left to right): Chad Bell, Megan McCormick, Brooke Reed, and Julia Steinman.

Jessica (Singleton) Jasper is currently a stay at home mother to two children Paul 5 and Anna 2 (photo at right) who attends Baptist Seminary Of Kentucky.  After receiving her Master of Divinity degree in pastoral care and counseling, she plans on either working in Hospice Care or as a Chaplain in a hospital.

A chapter she wrote was included in a 2008 book published by Southland Christian Church.

Stephanie Carlisle and Jason are married!!  She is working as an accountant for Fifth Third Bank.

Bethany Hampton has a daughter named Cameron who visited campus during Homecoming 2008!

Andrea Lewis married Seth Womack on October 04, 2008.
