General Education Requirements

Basic Writing and Research 3 Hours (English 112)
Foreign Language 0-9 Hours (Required proficiency at 2nd year level–placement determined by placement test)
Mathematics 3 Hours (Math 107 or above)
Biology 3 Hours (Biology 100 or 111)
Physical Science 3 Hours (one course from the following options:  Chemistry 101, 102, 111, or 112; Physics 100, 103, 109, or 111; Geology 113)
Humanities Sequence 6 Hours (any of the following pairs:  English 211/213; Philosophy 201/203; History 111/113)
Religion 3 Hours (Religion 231, 233, 235 or 237)
Fine Arts 4 Hours (two courses from two of three departments:  Art; Music; Theater)
Social Sciences 6 Hours (two courses from the following options:  Psychology 111, 242, or 260; Political Science 100 or 300; Sociology 111, 113, 115, or 116; Anthropology 317)

BA in Liberal Studies

  • A minimum of 57 hours of courses numbered 300 or above in four of the following disciplines:
    • Art,

    • Mathematics (includes Computer Science),
    • Physics,

  • Two tutorial courses in two of the four disciplines
  • A maximum of 18 hours can be taken in any one of the four chosen disciplines

Year By Year Competencies

Year I Competencies

  • Writing: Completion of English 112 with a B or better
  • Technology: Ability to use technology as needed in fields of study
  • Aptitude: Evidence of maturity and discipline required for study abroad
  • Minimum 3.00 GPA by the end of the second semester in the program

Year II Competencies

  • Tutorial: Must pass first tutorial by the end of the fourth semester with a B or higher
  • Oral Communication: Competence in public speaking assessed by tutor(s) and other faculty (for students without prior experiences in forensics or completion of a course in public speaking).

Year III Competencies

  • Fulfillment of competencies in senior level writing, oral communications, and technology.
  • Tutorial: Must pass second tutorial with a grade of B or higher
  • Comprehensive Exams: Must pass comprehensive examinations in the two disciplines containing the greatest number of completed upper level hours.
  • Minimum 3.25 GPA by the end of the sixth semester in the program
