While many descriptive terms can be selected, it is accurate to say that there is much ‘unsteadiness’ in our world. Passing the threshold of another September 11 brings this thought to mind. Recent days and weeks have compounded the unsteadiness as, for example, tensions continue to rise with North Korea, racial tensions are increasing in our country, unprecedented flooding has occurred in Houston and surrounding areas, and Hurricane Irma has wreaked havoc across Florida and other portions of the southeast.

Facing these and other difficulties, we press on with prayers and actions that, hopefully, will provide assistance. It is encouraging to know that there is a common bond of strength that we share with other people in the meeting of challenges, and that we hold a confident faith in a God who upholds and sustains a world. I am reminded of the assuring words from Psalm 75:3  —  “When the earth totters, and all its inhabitants, it is I who keep steady its pillars.”

Today, we lift our thoughts and prayers for all Georgetown College alumni and friends who have been affected by the recent hurricanes. Please know that we care, and we are hopeful that your damage has been slight, and that your recovery will be swift.
