ON WE GO! – January 10, 2018

I write my Perspective today in celebration of Georgetown College as ‘community.’ With that term, I am not speaking of the College merely as an educational or social unit. But I am referring to the College as a body where the concept of ‘togetherness’ permeates its existence. Community involves far more than just proximity. It involves such dimensions as care, courage, faith, joy, and celebration. These are the things that give life to community, and these are the things that we share at Georgetown College.
I am reminded that, at any given point, we have colleagues on our faculty and staff who are suffering through difficult family, health, or other situations. At the same time, we regularly have reasons to rejoice, as we celebrate the achievements of persons within our community. Respecting the privacy of our colleagues, I will not give examples of the former, but within our fold we know of the situations, and we care.
As for the latter, here is one to make your day: Georgetown’s own, Coach Bill Cronin, was recently elected as President of the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in 2018, becoming the first NAIA coach ever to serve in that prominent capacity. Congratulations, Coach! And thank you, Georgetown College, for understanding and living community.
