Tigers No. 1 in NAIA Coaches’ Poll

For the 15th time overall and first since 2015-16, Georgetown College men’s basketball claimed the top spot in the NAIA Coaches’ Poll. The No. 1 Tigers have run through the first half of their 2017-18 schedule, going 14-0.
GC defeated Simmons College of Kentucky, 114-52, Monday evening and Tuesday afternoon jumped from preseason fourth to first in the first regular-season poll. The Tigers scored 100-plus points in nine of its first 14 games and are winning by a nation-leading 40.3 points per game.
Texas Tech University transfer Shadell Millinghaus is leading the charge, scoring 314 points thus far (first in the nation) with an average of 24.2 ppg (fourth nationally). He also has 123 rebounds (second in the nation) and 27 steals (third in the nation).
Trent Gilbert is hitting a nation’s best 4.6 three-point field goals a game for a top spot of 64. He tied GC’s all-time three-point baskets in a game record earlier this year with 10.
Eljay Cowherd has a nation’s best assists per game – 6.1 – as well as sitting on top with total assists at 85. He broke GC’s all-time in-game assist record with 16 earlier this season.
Georgetown has been named in the Top 25 of 56 straight polls, only second to fellow Mid-South Conference foe University of Pikeville.
The Tigers are not back in action until Dec. 30 when GC hosts University of Miami – Hamilton.
