Sigma Kappa Wins 2017 Songfest Competition
Submitted on October 27, 2017
The women of Sigma Kappa took overall first place in the 2017 Songfest competition during Homecoming weekend. They also won the Most Original category.
Songfest is held on Friday evening of Homecoming and is a tradition as important to many as the football game. It is when students representing different residence halls and campus organizations display their talent by competing with skits they write and perform. There is lots of singing, dancing, and acting.
This year’s theme was “90’s Kids Only.” Competition categories were Best Musicality, Most Original, Best Choreography, Most Humorous, and Best Georgetown Spirit.
And the winners . . . . . .
Best Musicality: President’s House Association.
Most Original: Sigma Kappa.
Best Choreography: Kappa Delta.
Most Humorous: Lambda Chi Alpha.
Best Georgetown Spirit: Alpha Gamma Delta.
Alpha Gamma Delta also took third overall. Second place overall went to the ladies of Phi Mu.
The Songfest evening starts with a performance by the cheerleading and dance teams. While the judges tally their scores and prepare to announce winners, the hip-hop team provides entertainment.
Songfest is one of many fun and exciting Georgetown Activities Council (GAC) events held throughout the school year. A complete listing of GC traditions is available online at http://www.georgetowncollege.edu/campus-life/student-involvement/gac.
