President’s Award Winners Announced
Submitted on July 29, 2020
One of the most prestigious awards at GC, the President’s Award, is given to two students each year and chosen by the president of the college. It awards students who exemplify the values of Georgetown College, who excel academically and show themselves to be student-leaders ready to make an impact in their communities. Georgetown College is incredibly proud to announce that the 2020 President’s Award winners are Laura Callihan and McKala Bozman.
Laura Callihan, an Honors student at Georgetown College, completed her Honors Thesis on Ovid and John Milton this past spring, a remarkable achievement, especially given the unique circumstances of this past spring semester. She also participated in the Oxford Honors Program, having completed three terms at Regent’s Park College at Oxford University. She was incredibly active in her sorority, Phi Mu, serving as secretary and chaplain. This fall, Laura will begin law school at the University of Cincinnati.
Professor of English and Director of the Georgetown College Honors Program, Dr. Barbara Burch, said “I am certainly proud that she is a graduate of our institution and believe she is eminently deserving of the President’s Award. She is an accomplished, wise, ambitious, and kind young woman who has strengthened the academic, social, and spiritual ethos of Georgetown College.”
McKala Bozman took a unique path to Georgetown College. A superb student-athlete and star volleyball player, she searched for a college she could call home and a team she could call family. She would eventually find that at GC. While attending Georgetown College, she competed as a student-athlete, maintained excellent work in the classroom, and traveled to a from North Carolina to help take care of an ailing family member. Her servant’s heart, along with her tremendous work ethic, exemplifies exactly what Georgetown College represents.
Women’s Volleyball Coach, Felicia Pace, said “It has been a delight to be her coach and now extended family member. I can confidently say she has the character and drive of an individual who will be part of the change that our world is so greatly in need of.”
These two graduates have worked tremendously hard during their time at GC, and it is with great honor that we award them the 2020 President’s Award.
