New Georgetown College Choral Director Looks to the Future

Visiting Assistant Professor and Director of Choral Activities, Christopher Powell, is increasingly aware of the rich tradition he’s stepping into. A native Kentuckian with a Bachelor’s Degree from WKU and a Master’s Degree in Music Education with a Choral Conducting emphasis from UK, Powell is ready for his new challenge as Director of Choral Activities at Georgetown College.
“Having been in Kentucky high schools for the last decade, this will be a new adventure, but one I’m ready to tackle,” he said.
After spending a decade in high schools, the jump to the college level excites him, but Georgetown College, in particular, always had his attention. “Georgetown feels like a family place. The intimate size and Christian foundation makes it a college campus I would be comfortable bringing my two young daughters (3 years old and 6 months) along to any events. As a native Kentuckian, I’m so proud to be a part of a college with such a rich history in our state and such a distinguished legacy of alumni.”
He’s quick to note the past glories of the Vocal Music Program, as well, and his aspirations for it moving forward. “I know the amazing achievements that have been seen here in the past. I want to see the program rise to the level of its former glory.”
When talking with Powell, the one thing that’s most evident is his passion and work ethic. “I know this will take time and there will be lots of adjustments. But I’m willing to take the time, and I’m committed to working through any adjustments to make this program once again one of the premier vocal music schools in the state.”
