Join Us for a Day of Giving
Submitted on November 15, 2018
You will play an important role in the life of Georgetown College and help assure GC continues to be one of the top small liberal arts colleges in America by participating in #GCTigerTuesday on Nov.27, the global day of giving. The goal for the day is 829 gifts. Alumni, faculty, staff, students and members of the community-at-large are encouraged to be 1/829 supporters to celebrate the day with a financial gift to the college.
“We are celebrating a day dedicated to giving when charities, families, businesses, communities, students, and more will all come together for #GivingTuesday,” commented John Davis, Vice President for Development. “Millions of people will come together on this day to support and champion the causes they believe in and the communities in which they live.”
A committee comprised of faculty, students, and staff led by Tricia Gaetz, Director of Annual Gifts, is working diligently to make the day a success. These individuals will be greeting donors throughout the day who visit campus in person.
Student sub-committee co-chair Aidan Young, Class of 2019, a senior from Flatwoods, KY, said that to her the special day is not so much about the monetary gifts as “about a group of people coming together to support what they believe in.” She added, “I encourage all students to give because we are lucky enough to directly see the impact these gifts make. By giving back, we are paving the way to leave the college better than how we found it.”
Please join the movement. Be one of the 829 (1/829, a little play on the year of GC’s founding). The emphasis is on the number of gifts of any dollar amount. Last year, however, over $100,000 was raised in just one day, thanks to the generosity of nearly 800 individuals.
Donations may be made securely online using a credit card at gogc.me/gctigertuesday for the 24-hour period beginning at midnight on the 27th. Or make a gift in person by credit card, check, or cash. College personnel will greet visitors in front of Giddings Hall on campus from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.
When you make your gift in person from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., the Georgetown College Woman’s Association invites you to visit their Community Open House to enjoy refreshments and conversation in the Jones-Hall-Nelson Suite of Cralle Student. They will happily give a campus tour for anyone who would like it.
Gifts will also be accepted during that evening basketball games in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym. Updates will be given throughout the day via social media posts.
“On this #GCTigerTuesday, please make a gift to Georgetown College,” urged Mr. Davis. “Be assured your gift will make a huge difference in lives of our students.”
Georgetown College is known for providing its students with a strong, personalized education. A financial gift demonstrates your belief in the school’s mission and actively supports its long-standing culture of excellence.
Monies contributed benefit students directly through scholarships as well as technological physical plant improvements. Too, gifts from alumni, employees, and friends demonstrate support for the college and are a major influence for giving by corporations and foundations.
The Tuesday following Thanksgiving is set aside globally as a day of giving, officially kicking off the charitable season when many individuals focus on their holiday and end-of-year giving. We encourage you to be one of the 829 (1/829) making a gift to Georgetown College that day.
