The Georgetown College Equestrian Team had a successful first competition of the season this past weekend (Sept. 30-Oct. 1). Over the course of the two-day horse show hosted by the University of Louisville at Stone Place Stables in Prospect, KY,  five riders representing the GCET collectively took home thirteen ribbons.

In a highlight for the weekend, senior and team captain Ashley Duvall was awarded the High Point Rider title in Saturday’s competition after winning both of her classes in Intermediate Equitation over Fences and Open Equitation on the Flat. Duvall also placed fifth in Intermediate Equitation over Fences on Sunday.

Sophomore Piper Tomlin, fresh off her historic ride to the National Finals last spring, also brought home top prizes this weekend, finishing first in her Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter Equitation classes both Saturday and Sunday.

Sophomore Mackenzie Works debuted in a new division this weekend after qualifying and placing well at last year’s Regional Finals. In her first rides in the Novice Equitation division, she took home fourth and fifth place ribbons on the flat and fifth place over fences.

Sophomore Ashlyne Bacorn is also edging closer to regional qualification in the Novice division, earning third and sixth place finishes in Novice Equitation over Fences and fifth place in Novice Equitation on the Flat.

The Tigers also had a new freshman rider make her debut this weekend. Freshman Sophia Brunner started her college riding career on a high note, finishing in fourth place on Saturday in Beginner Walk-Trot-Canter and improving to a third-place finish in Sunday’s competition.

The equestrian team competes next at Miami University of Ohio in Oxford, OH on October 13 and 14, and will host their third annual horse show here in Georgetown on October 20 and 21 to finish out the fall season.
