2020 Commencement Festivities to Take Place July 10th – July 11th

Submitted on April 30, 2020

When the college was first forced to close the campus to in-person classes in March, the cabinet also announced that the decision regarding canceling commencement would be put off until April 29th. By waiting as long as possible to make that decision, the hope was that the situation would improve sufficiently to allow this important milestone and ceremony to occur as planned on May 9th. Unfortunately, that has not happened.

Now, in keeping with social distancing and wellness guidelines outlined by the CDC, the Commonwealth of Kentucky, Scott County, and City of Georgetown, Georgetown College is moving commencement festivities from the weekend of May 9th, 2020 to the weekend of July 10th-11th, with Baccalaureate Service taking place on Friday, July 10th and Commencement taking place Saturday, July 11th.

“We are offering a date that we hope will be the best possible for as many of you as possible,” President Jones told soon-to-be graduates.

The events will be held on campus on those days, with more exact time and location details to follow in early June. Regalia and adornments will be mailed to students as soon as possible to allow them to take pictures and celebrate in their own way the incredible achievement of being a graduate of Georgetown College.

“You have achieved championship-level success during your time at Georgetown,” said President Jones. “I am confident you will do even greater things throughout the course of your life.”
