GEORGETOWN, KY – A student marketing team from Georgetown College will compete against teams from 10 universities in the Commonwealth in the second Alltech Innovation Competition scheduled for April 26.
The objective this year is to put forward a business plan to capitalize on innovation in Kentucky’s food and agriculture sectors.
In 2013, three Kentucky universities rose to Alltech President Dr. Pearse Lyons’ challenge to put forward the best plan for creating jobs in the Commonwealth, particularly Eastern Kentucky. The winning team was from the University of Kentucky. In the end, it was an idea for reclaiming mountaintops with switchgrass for fuel that reigned supreme.
Like last year, $20,000 in prizes is once again on the line and the competition is expected to be fierce.
Schools declaring their intent to participate include, besides Georgetown College, Asbury University, Eastern Kentucky University, Kentucky State University, Morehead State University, Murray State University, University of Kentucky, University of Louisville, University of Pikeville, and Western Kentucky University.
The event will be held on the Newtown campus of Bluegrass Community and Technical College in Lexington.
