Mike began his career as a teacher/coach in the late 60s at Southwestern High School in Hanover, Indiana.
During his years at Southwestern he was Freshmen Basketball Coach, Junior Varsity Basketball Coach and the assistant to the Varsity Basketball Coach. Mike was also the Head Track Coach. In 1972, Mike and his family moved to Rising Sun Indiana. At Rising Sun High School he continued teaching and took on the responsibilities of Boys Head Basketball Coach and Head Track Coach.
Mike accepted the position of Boys head basketball Coach at Mason High School in Mason, Ohio in 1977. Then in 1980, he gave up the coaching position when he was named Athletic Director at Mason High School.
He became involved with amateur baseball in 1983 when CABA Executive Director Larry Redwine recruited Mike’s son, Todd, to play for the Mason Flyers baseball team. This began a lifelong relationship with baseball and a lifelong friendship with Larry Redwine.
From that point on Mike has served as Larry’s assistant coach. During those coaching years, he was fortunate to be a part of winning the Mickey Mantle World Series in 1988.
Mike Montgomery began his work with CABA in 1998 when he was appointed to the position of CABA Southern Ohio Director. In 2005 he was appointed to the position of CABA Vice President of Public Relations. CABA is headquartered in Maineville, Ohio.
Mike has had the opportunity to coach many athletes that used baseball as an avenue to play baseball at the collegiate and/or professional level. But more importantly for Mike, playing baseball provided all his players the opportunity to develop friendships while using their baseball experiences to enrich their daily lives.
Mike and his wife, Nancy (retired elementary teacher), live in Mason, Ohio. They have one son, Todd. Todd is the CABA State Director for Indiana and Kentucky Central .
In addition Todd is the 16U age level coordinator for the Southwest Ohio Baseball League.
