GEORGETOWN, KY – The Georgetown College Department of Music brings together its talented singer-actors and actor-singers to present the 2013 Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop, April 10-11, in John L. Hill Chapel. Performance begins at 7 p.m. Admission is free.
This spring’s two-day workshop features different music from popular shows each evening. Opening night includes scenes from The Wedding Singer, Porgy and Bess, Meet me in St. Louis, Once Upon a Mattress, My Fair Lady, Chicago, and The Telephone. The second night’s production has tunes from Legally Blonde, Norma, Bells are Ringing, The Ballad of Baby Doe, Sunset Boulevard, and West Side Story. Both nights include a fairytale finale from Shrek.
Under the direction of Dr. Heather Winter Hunnicutt, associate professor and chair, Department of Music, scenes are chosen to complement the strengths of the student performers while providing strategic challenges. Each student performs in his/her primary scene, and customarily performs one or more secondary roles in other scenes.
The Opera and Musical Theatre Workshop is offered each spring semester. The public is invited to attend each performance.
