GEORGETOWN, KY – The 3rd annual Dance Marathon Georgetown College (DMGC) starts at 5 p.m. on March 22 in both the George H.W. Bush Center for Fitness and the Davis-Reid Alumni Gym on campus. Proceeds benefit the Kentucky Children’s Hospital as part of the Children’s Miracle Network (CMN). The formal opening ceremony is planned for 6 p.m. and will be attended by families who have benefited directly from CMN efforts.
DMGC is the culmination of year-long fund-raising by students to help babies and young people receiving care at the hospital which serves all of Kentucky. Last year, DMGC surpassed its goal of $10,000, raising nearly $11,000. This year, the goal is $15,000.
Organizers are seeking the support of area businesses, community leaders and alumni to help cover the costs of running the marathon which runs 17 hours and 87 minutes. The specific time marks the year to which Georgetown College traces its roots.
Sponsorship levels are bronze, $50 to $249, to diamond, $1,000 to $2,500. Any donation of money, food or give-away items is welcome and helps the overall effort. Organizers are still accepting items to be given as prizes. Things like gift certificates and coupons are welcome. Local businesses already lending support are Mancino’s and Bruster’s. Among others are Texas Roadhouse and Penn Station.
Alumni and friends are encouraged to join the DMGC fun. Put on your dancin’ shoes! If you would like to just donate, they are asking for $13 for the year 2013.
Ashley R. Fox, a junior from Corbin, is principal contact and serves on the organizing committee with co-directors Meredith Johnson and Eddie White.
