Georgetown, KY –Three teachers with Georgetown College degrees are among the 24 who will be honored in Frankfort on Wednesday (Oct. 17) at the 2013 Ashland Inc. Teacher Achievement Awards ceremony. At that time, the 2013 Kentucky State Teacher will be announced in the Capitol Rotunda with the winner then going on to the National Teacher of the Year competition. Here’s the complete list.

The three with GC degrees are:

Christi Elkins-Gabbard ‘95, Lexington Traditional Magnet  (Fayette County) – GC undergraduate degree in German and Music; took enough courses to be dual certified in English and German through; certification in ‘98

Allison Hunt ‘99, duPont Manual High (Jefferson County) – undergrad area major in Social Studies (Political Science

Cheryl Nance ‘95, Collins Lane Elementary (Franklin County) – bachelors and in Elementary Ed; and MA in 2000.

Kimberly Pangburn Shearer ’01 was named the 2012 Kentucky Teacher of the Year last year. The English teacher at Boone County High School was the fifth top teacher awardee with a Georgetown College background selected since Ashland Inc. began giving it in 1988.
