Georgetown “Idol” Lauren Mink Rebounds from Hollywood Disappointment With Many Positives

Fans of Lauren Mink can catch her next appearance on Feb. 24 in Lexington at Desha's Horse & Barrel Pub from 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.

Lauren Mink, the recent GC student who got raves at her “American Idol” audition, was eliminated last week during the “Hollywood Round.” But, the Winchester native is way beyond taking the disappointment in stride – she’s finding lots of positives in her life right now.

The country-rocker can now reveal that Hollywood week was filmed before Christmas. “So, I have had plenty of time to turn any negative into an overwhelmingly positive experience,” she said. “It was a win/win experience for me.”

Below is her Facebook update after her elimination went public.

“This has been the most exciting experience of my life! I could be nothing other than thrilled right now. Thank you to everyone who has supported me along this journey! American Idol has created so many new opportunities that I can’t wait to share with you all! I’m amazed at the generosity of people that I don’t even know towards my program, STRIDE. This show put them on a National platform that they will remember for the rest of their lives! I’ve also just put together my dream band! This is just the beginning! Stay tuned :0)”

Lauren, a Communicatin & Media Studies major while at Georgetown College, is Director of STRIDE (Supporting Therapeutic Recreation for Individuals with Disabilities Everyday) – a program for adults with disabilities located in her hometown.
