Remember that first-ever fundraising contest centered around our (Feb. 2) home basketball games against the University of Pikeville? Our Alumni Relations office challenged UPike’s to see who could get the most “unique” online donations in the week and a half before the women’s/men’s double-header against our MSC rivals in Davis-Reid Alumni Gym.

Well, GC alums, you won – 85-16! Which means current and future GC students are the big winners. Don’t forget: Even the $10 donations are meaningful as foundations and corporations take into consideration how well an institution is supported by its alumni base.

That so many of you responded online was very exciting. “Eighty-five gifts in a span of 11 days is phenomenal,” said Laura Owsley ’92, GC’s Director of Annual Giving, who helped make the announcement that wining night (both Tiger teams were victorious, too)! “And, the impact of these gifts will help us increase our giving percentage, especially when we apply for grants with foundations and corporations.”

Owsley asks that alumni remember that when a GC student calls this spring to ask for your support. “If every alum gave just $10, think of the impression that would make to those foundations we apply to for project grants and the impact that could have for our current students!”
