Young Men in Ministry
Initiative
The Young Men in Ministry initiative at Georgetown College is a
Lilly-funded program that seeks both to enhance the theological discernment of
vocation among male students overall and to provide opportunities for young men
to exercise their particular gifts, passions and callings.
Our initiative involves two distinct opportunities. First, students
have been offered the opportunity to apply for a $500 ministry reimbursement.
The purpose of this seed money is to reimburse students for expenses they incur
while starting a ministry or mission opportunity for which they have a
vision. Our hope is to nourish the entrepreneurial/ministerial passions of male
students by funding creative and missional opportunities that might otherwise
not take place because of a lack of funding.
The second arm of this initiative involves subsidizing two outdoor
adventure trips in May of 2008 and 2009. These trips provide an opportunity for
mountaineering and white water rafting during the day, with discussions about
faith, calling and vocation each night. We invite a facilitator from
off-campus to join us in our activities and to lead our conversations each
night.
