Whitney Shultz traveled to Garza
Brazil over spring break to work
with the Alpha and Omega
Children's Home. Here are some
of her thoughts- "During this trip there have been so many great experiences mixed with a multitude of feelings and thoughts. So much has happened this week that I think I could write a book on my one week in Brazil. We are able to invest so much in the lives of the kids, but it is so hard to do all we would like in one week. God blessed me so much this week. I feel so revived. Going to Brazil allows us to escape the silly pressures or standards of our society and dive into what it really means to be serving Him. We take these things forgranted! I wish I didn't have to leave! When I get home I hope that God will continue to place a burden on my heart to reach my peers. Last night was one of the best nights all week. My group was incharge of the theme dinner, which was going to be 50s. Once the kitchen was clean we set to decorating. On the tables we had fun tableclothes, music note center pieces, pink and black plates and cups. On the walls we had plastic decorations of diner scenes and cars from the 50s. We also had balloons hung everywhere. The room looked amazing and the music played made it almost complete. The team came in with their costumes on. This was also the night we had to say goodbye to the kids. However, this didn't make it sad at all. The kids loved the food, music and service we provided." |
The conference confused the living daylights out of
me in terms of the way I view God's calling in my
life. I approached the conference ready to do
missions in Africa as soon as I graduated from
seminary, but now I've realized that my scope of
calling is much wider than that. Needless to say
it's a good kind of confusion because I feel like
countless doors have been opened, but I am no longer
called to anything as specific as "missions in
Africa as soon as I graduated from seminary." A truth that I will remember about the conference is that one's call very rarely is to a specific vocation. God will work with a person to use his/her gifts and fulfill their calling in jobs one wouldn't have otherwise predicted The most rewarding part of the conference was being able to connect with people that I was familiar with but did not know personally because these connections allowed me to be challenged into re-examining my call and what I believe about specific issues in the church Used with permission by Sam Chinn |
