Purpose and Goals
Georgetown College seeks from the Lilly Endowment a grant of one half million dollars to continue a program of the theological exploration of vocation for the years 2007-2009. This program is known as “The Meetinghouse at Georgetown College.” The following materials detail our program of inquiry, conversation and reflection, describe its four-year history of influence and inspiration for students, faculty and staff, and defend its intrinsic relationship to our institutional mission. In describing and extending this Vocation Project, we reaffirm the following six goals which served as the prelude to our original grant proposal in 2001:
Goal One
The College seeks to continue the theological exploration of vocation as a practice of significance that is highly visible and broadly embraced by the College community and that is deeply embedded in the culture of the College.
Goal Two
The College seeks to inspire all students toward the theological exploration of vocation by forming practices, cultivating attitudes, and creating opportunities that impact not only their College experiences but also their life-long journey of faith and work.
Goal Three
The College seeks to enrich the curriculum of the College with fresh and engaging opportunities for the theological exploration of vocation.
Goal Four
The College seeks to enhance the theological exploration of vocation among the faculty and staff, having been confirmed in our earlier conviction that as they embrace and embody this practice it will, first, enrich them personally and professionally and, second, exert a positive and powerful influence upon the students.
Goal Five
The College seeks to extend this theological exploration of vocation into the congregational and professional networks that are in the sphere of influence of the College (with special attention to our own Baptist and alumnae constituencies).
Goal Six
The College seeks to continue our success in securing the financial resources necessary to sustain these programs of the theological exploration of vocation during and beyond the period of the grant.
