Spanish is spoken by almost 400 million people in 25 countries, including the U.S., where Hispanic population is projected to be one quarter of the total U.S. population by 2025! Georgetown students practice their language skills at Spanish table, enjoy foreign films with the Hispanic Movie Club, attend cultural holiday parties like the Day of the Dead, eat and dance at the Festival Latino, and attend art exhibitions and lectures.
Spanish majors can teach at home or abroad, pursue graduate degrees, work in the private sector, or find positions in diplomacy, public service, and missions. A double major or minor in Spanish complements nearly every other field of study, since knowing a second language is essential in business, medicine, the travel industry, communications, international law, and education. A knowledge of Spanish and appreciation for other cultures have placed GC students at the top of job candidate pools.
Students of Spanish at Georgetown also study abroad and find internships in places like Costa Rica, Cuba, Mexico, Ecuador, and Spain — and they come back with amazing stories to tell!
