Most publications are on a month schedule (from start to delivery), but some publications can take several months to complete.
Each academic year, several hundred publications are produced in the communications and marketing office. These publications range from simple black ink on white or colored paper (printed at Pub/Dup) to elaborate color productions costing thousands of dollars.
Print publications cannot be prepared in a short period of time. Most publications are on a month schedule (from start to delivery), but some publications can take several months to complete.
The focus of our publications is external (off-campus) college constituencies, for example, prospective students, alumni, donors, etc.
If your publication is intended for internal use, you will most likely be referred to Pub/Dup where desktop publishing is available free or at nominal charge. Pub/Dup is also responsible for the printing of business cards and most stationery.
The communications and marketing office handles the:
- design work
- cost estimating
- copy editing
- art direction of photo shoots
- proof reading
- supervision of printing process
- press checks
- oversight of publication delivery
Individual departments are required to provide funding for their respective projects.
Most publications are on a schedule and usually there are at least a half a dozen in process at any one time. Our busiest time of the year is often July, August, September, and October. Projects that need to be completed during this time should be planned well in advance to ensure their timely delivery. It is also difficult to accommodate rush jobs in this time frame.
Because of the workload, it is important that departments are aware of timelines that must be followed in the production of publications.
