How to connect your laptop/wireless device to GCWiFi

Most handheld devices such as iPads, iPhones, Droids, etc. will prompt for your user name/password and Domain (use “FAST” for the domain) when GCWiFi is selected.  After inputting your identification, accept any VeriSign certificate prompt.

Windows 7 and Vista Clients

For many machines you simply need to connect to GCWiFi as you would any other wireless network, a prompt will appear, put in your Georgetown College username/password and the domain of FAST.  When prompted by the VeriSign certificate, click “OK” or “YES” to accept it.  If your computer does not connect, then follow the instructions below.  Because of the encryption process each step will take a little while to complete.  Once you have the status of “Connected” you are ready to access network resources using the most current wireless securities.

Turn off your wireless before starting any of the Windows instructions.  There should be a button/switch on your laptop or a key combination such as FN-F2.

Click “Open Network and Sharing Center”

Click “Manage wireless networks”

Delete (Remove) any GCWiFi icon.  Click on “Add”

Click “Manually create a network profile”

Type “GCWiFi” in the network name field.  Capitalization and spelling/spacing is important.

For Security type, select WPA2-Enterprise

Click Next, click “Change connection settings”

Click Security tab

Uncheck “Validate server certificate”

Uncheck “Automatically use my Windows Logon name”

Click OK several times to return to your desktop.  Turn on your wireless and you will be prompted with a logon screen.

Type in your network user name (example; jsmith2) and your network password.  This is the same password you use for email.  Logon domain is FAST.

GCWiFi should now connect automatically whenever you are in range of a wireless access point.

Windows XP

Make sure you are not connected to the GCWiFi network when configuring these network parameters. Right-click the wireless icon in the bottom right of your taskbar and select “view available wireless networks.” The following screen appears. Click on “Change advanced settings”.  Select “Add”, type “GCWiFi” for the network name.

Select the “Wireless Networks” tab, select the 802.1x-enabled network and click “Properties”

Ensure that “WPA2” and “AES” are selected, then click on the “Authentication” tab

Select EAP type: “PEAP”, then click on the “Properties” button

Uncheck “Validate server certificate”

Click on Configure

Deselect “Automatically use my Windows logon name and password”

Click “OK” to close out all open windows. Right-Click your wireless network icon in the system tray (bottom right corner of the screen). Select “View Available Wireless Networks” and then select  GCWiFi, You will now be prompted for your username, password and for domain input FAST.

 

OSX 10.6 – Snow Leopard

You will be prompted for credentials. Input valid credentials and click “OK”.  You should use your network ID and password.

You will be prompted with a Certificate warning. Click “Continue”. Please allow up to 60 seconds for successful authentication.

You should now be authenticated and allowed to connect to your wireless network using Meraki RADIUS.
