Social Security
In the United States your Social Security Number is used by the government and other organizations/businesses as an official way to identify you. In order to work or go through the driver’s licensing/state I.D. process you must first visit the Social Security Office to apply for a Social Security Number.
You cannot begin this process until you meet the following criteria:
- You have been in the United States for at least 10 days
- You have a job offer OR a letter from the Office of International Programs asking for a denial letter (only given if you wish to apply for a driver’s license or state I.D. and do not have a job offer)
