CADIVI

The Comisión de Administración de Divisas (CADIVI) is the Venezuelan organization which controls the money that leaves Venezuela. The following information applies only to Venezuelan students.

Note: As a result of recent CADIVI changes, CADIVI requests must be submitted (in Venezuela to CADIVI) at least 30 business days prior to the session start date.

What is CADIVI?

CADIVI (Comisión de Administración de Divisas – Commission for the Administration of Currency Exchange) is the Venezuelan government body which administers currency exchange in Venezuela. Commercial banks and other authorized exchange agents are required to obtain authorization from CADIVI in order to trade Bolίvares Fuertes (VEF) into U.S. dollars (USD). How do I Request a CADIVI Letter from Georgetown College?

Please email or stop by the Office of International Programs to request your CADIVI letter. Please note that this may take a few days.

New Students: your I-20 will automatically be sent with your CADIVI letter.

What Details are Included in a Georgetown College CADIVI Letter?

All CADIVI letters issued by the Office of International Programs include the following information:

  • Student’s Name, date of birth and “numero de cedula”
  • Certification of the student’s full-time status
  • Student’s major (note: only certain majors are approved by CADIVI)
  • Session dates
  • Charges for one (1) semester. Charges listed include tuition, room, meals and health insurance. Only charges that appear on your student account can be listed.

The Office of International Programs provides one (1) letter in English and one (1) letter in Spanish – both are printed on college letterhead, notarized and carry the official seal of the College.

Apostille

Once you have received your CADIVI letter, you will need to complete the following steps BEFORE sending the letter to the Venezuelan Embassy in Washington, D.C.:

  1. Have the notarization certified by the Scott County Clerk’s Office
    1. The cost is $5.00 (cash only)
    2. Located in the Scott County Courthouse; open Monday-Friday 8:30 am – 4:30 pm
  2. Have the letter certified with an apostille by the Kentucky Secretary of State’s Office
    1. The cost is $5.00
      1. This can be done in advance by mail using the Apostille Request Form
      2. This can also be done in person by visiting the Kentucky State Capital building
