Next Steps

Obtaining Your Visa

International students enter the US at a Port of Entry (POE) where your documents will be inspected by a US Customs and Border Protection officer. To find out more about obtaining your visa and entering the US, visit US Citizenship and Immigration Services website.

Obtaining a Social Security Number

Because this is a complex process, Natalie Rupard (your International Student Support contact) will assist you with this entire process. To obtain your social security number, you must first have a job offer. After you have proof of an offer, see Natalie Rupard for assistance.

Advising/ Registration Process

Here at Georgetown College, there are numerous people who will help you schedule your classes. During International Student Orientation, you will have the opportunity to register for classes with our Registrar's Office if you have not before that point. For more information on the registration process, please visit the Registrar's website.

G-Cards

Your G-Card is an ID card that is used for many different purposes on and off campus. It is your library card, is used for your meal plan, and is needed for printing and copying on campus. It can also be used out in the community at many local restaurants and stores.

To obtain your G-Card, you must go to the Business Office in Highbaugh Hall. There, they will take you picture and print out your G-Card.

Make sure that you take good care of this card, as you will use the same one for your entire career here at Georgetown College.

For more information, visit the G-Card website.

Campus E-Mail Account

After you register for classes, you will receive a letter providing information about housing and move-in procedures. This will also provide you with your e-mail address. You can then log on to Spider, the student's main webpage. From there, look for Student Webmail. Type in your e-mail address and the password provided, which will log you in to your e-mail. If you have any questions, contact Information Technology Services.

Textbooks

You can obtain your textbooks once you arrive on campus. To do this, take your class schedule to The Store (located on the bottom level of Cralle Student Center). The Store staff will help you obtain all textbooks that you need. Along with buying books in person, you can now purchase textbooks online by visiting The Store's website.

Room and Board

Campus housing is available for all students. There are seven male dorms and seven female dorms, as well as apartments for junior and senior males and females located on East Campus.

There are three places for students to eat on campus. The main eatery, the cafeteria, is open for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. The Mulberry Cafe is open for breakfast and lunch and serves Starbucks coffee. The Grille is open all day and serves many different eating options. To find out more about meal plans and eating options, please visit the Georgetown College Dining Services website.

What to Bring to Georgetown

Clothes. Georgetown College does not have a dress code, but it is recommended to bring appropriate school attire with you. Dress for class is casual, but there may be times when you have to dress up for different campus events. For this reason, you should bring at least one formal outfit with you. You will need this during new student orientation, and most likely will use this at other points throughout your college career.

Linens. Sheets and other bedding are not provided, so you may bring your own with you. If you do not wish to bring them from home, there are many local stores in Georgetown where you can purchase these items.

Money. While you may have already paid for schooling, it is important to bring some extra spending money. It is not advised to carry large amounts of cash, but instead to use a bank account from home or set up a bank account here in the states.

United Nations of Georgetown

The mission of the UNG is to help unify different ethnic and cultural backgrounds by providing opportunities to explore our own culture and those of others. By promoting personal growth through exploration and evaluation of unfamiliar ideas and concepts, we hope to expand the minds of the community around us.

Through teamwork we hope to create an inviting and understanding atmosphere of students regardless of their backgrounds. In our multi-cultural world, one primary asset a person can possess is the ability to relate to a broad range of people. This ability can only be gained through exposure to diverse languages, communication styles, accents, ideas, values, customs, etc.
