Georgetown's Class System/ Structure

The structure of Georgetown's classes and the academic life on campus may be different here in the US and at Georgetown College than what you are used to. As a liberal arts school, you are required to take General Education classes, which include the basic classes in English, science, history, math, and religion. From there, you have the opportunity to continue in classes for your major and minor.

Tips for Class

  • Show up on time. Here at Georgetown College, professors expect students to arrive to class on time and be prepared. In some cultures, showing up a few minutes late is acceptable. In the US, this is not the case.

  • Study outside of class. For every one hour that you spend in the classroom, it is expected that you spend three hours outside of the classroom studying and reading over class materials. This is a vital part of your success here at Georgetown College.
