The Master of Arts in Education with Secondary Education (MA-AC) provides initial teaching certification at the middle or high school levels and certification at all grade levels for art, music and world language. It is offered to students who hold a bachelor’s degree in a “certifiable major.” For example, a student who graduates with a degree in English may earn certification in teaching English at the middle and high school levels. This program is offered in Two Tracks as follows:

Track 1: Certification for provisionally certified teachers. This program is designed for those currently teaching under temporary provisional certificates, who hold a Bachelor’s degree with a certifiable major (such as Biological Science, Chemistry, English/Language Arts, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies) and who wish to continue teaching in the Secondary Grades 8-12. (36 hours)

Track 2: certification for Bachelor’s degree holders Teacher certification for Bachelor’s degree holders with a certifiable major (Biological Science, Chemistry, English, Mathematics, Physics, Social Studies), who have little education background and the desire to become certified for Secondary Grades 8-12. (38 hours) Either of these certifications can also be extended to include Middle Grades 5-9 in English/Communications, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. In addition, students can enter either of the two tracks to work toward certification in Art, Music, French, German, Spanish; a Bachelor’s degree with a major in the appropriate discipline is required for program entry.
