The basic tenet of the Teacher Leader Master of Arts Program at Georgetown College is to empower teachers to become educational leaders so that they can build capacity within their schools and districts. Teacher leaders gather and analyze information and data from multiple sources judiciously; identify and address studentsâ€™ learning needs effectively; think critically about how to improve teaching and learning; and work cooperatively with others within and beyond the school to help all students achieve their fullest potential.
The Instructional Computer Technology endorsement is designed to help in-service teachers gain knowledge and skills needed to use technology to enhance student learning, and to provide leadership in schools and school systems in order to nurture and expand these abilities in others. Our current and former students hold leadership positions at both the district, school, and university levels.Â This program is delivered online. The overall goal of the Teacher Leader Master of Arts with Instructional Technology Endorsement is the better integration of technology into the personal and professional lives of graduates, leading to better integration of technology into the curricula of their schools and districts. This will be accomplished by meeting NCATE standards and KERA initiatives ( ISTE-TF ) through the mastery of Kentuckyâ€™s Teacher Standards, in particular, Standard 6 for Implementation of Technology.
In this program, the teacher candidate uses technology to support instruction; access and manipulate data; enhance professional growth and productivity; communicate and collaborate with colleagues, parents, and the community; and conduct research (EPSB, revised February 2008).
Throughout Georgetownâ€™s graduate education programs, technology is viewed as an enabling tool by which Kentuckyâ€™s core content can be more efficiently and effectively mediated to students. This particular program will take graduate students well beyond the minimum guidelines for all teachers, in order to help establish them as leaders in the use and integration of technology to accomplish the broader goals of Kentuckyâ€™s education reform, and of the learned and professional societies which advise and govern educational programs.
A PRAXIS exam isÂ not required to be recommended to the state for this endorsement.
